PINE AS AN ALTERNATIVE SA Pine comes from a renewable source and is generally not considered to be a decking timber of choice. TANALIZED@ treatment on pine entails that the pine is pressure soaked in a chemical solution to prevent rot and insect infestation. This treatment is guaranteed for 25 years by its manufacturer Koppers Arch. Master Decks have been using Tanalized treated pine since inception for deck structures with no rot reported to date. A Tanalized treated pine deck will probably outlast a hardwoord deck but has the disadvantage of being softwood that can score when a heavy chair is dragged over it. The knots in pine can also fall out over time but apart from that it is certainly a suitable and affordable timber to use for decks. We used Pine for the deck herunder to create a conversation pit complete with benches, flower boxes and subdued lighting. The floating steps add a total new dimension and depth to the design.
